  7. INTRODUCTION

    The JYU Hornet S was a brushless quadcopter with the possibility to transform the machine into a simple flyer or into a FPV machine or even into a video plateform thanks to some clipsable modules. Unfortunatly, the Hornet S didn’t fill all the promises, i.e. the FPV module offered a poor range, the gimbal-camera system a poor flight time performance. Here is the JYU Hornet 2, the new upgraded version keeps the same spirit with clipsable modules and probably can be seen as the fixed Hornet S. Associated with the Hornet 2, four versions are proposed : a basic model to be used as a simple brushless flyer, a FPV version including also a 1080p camera (without EIS), a 3-axis gimbal coupled with a basic 4K camera, and the pro version including a 3-axis gimbal and 4K@30fps camera.

    OVERVIEW

    The Hornet 2 is still a 280 mm brushless machine and is still 100% plastic based. The general design is also similar with the original Hornet S. The plastic looks a high quality one. For this new “major” revision, they promised to reinforce internally by some orthogonal tubes the general durability of this 100% plastic based canopy…. In the first hand, espcially when the battery is installed, the machine seems heavy…. and it’s hard to believe that this machine will resist to major crash. In comparaison with the Xiaomi Mi 4K, the hornet 2 looks much more compact. A good point….. Unfortunatly no possibility to fold at least the landing gear so the transportation won’t be so easy.

    FRONT VIEW

    The design is cool for sure and the integration of the gimbal-camera module well done. Anyway, the landing skid looks fragile… and won’t accept a hard landing without damage. What’s a pity also, there is way to fold the system for an easy transportation.

    When you remove the gimbal-camera module, you can access to the module bay where just above the battery connector, a small microUSB where to connect the machine to the “Hornet 2” PC software.

    On each side of the camera-gimbal module, you can find two press button to release the module. Just shift it forward to completly release it.

    To install it, pre-insert it then push it rear… You shoud hear the clip system when it’s done.

    The Gimbal-camera system integrates a 2.4G WiFi module with a diversity system. In order to maximize the FPV range, it’s good to have one vertically and the second one horizontally.

    We can guess one of the two plastic pads used to extract the battery. The second one is on the bottom side. We need to press on them then pull out the battery. In practice, it’s really hard to extract the battery. Probably after multiple extractions, it will be a bit more easier but actually each time I had to force a lot.

    The gimbal system don’t offer a classic dampening system with four dampening balls. Here we have a central circular dampening rubber element jailing the gimbal. It’s original and allow a more compact integration. We will see if it’s also efficient for the video stabilization.

    We still have the same light system as for the Hornet S controlable via the light button and left dial of the remote control. Three modes are proposed. Only with the first, the intensity can be controlled with the left dial. The second offers a circular larson effect.

The kinetic energy is 1/2mv² …. so quadratic with the velocity…… It clearly impossible for a full plastic structure to resist to anything if the hornet 2 crashes at 100km/h and more. IMHO it can survive up to 20km/h maximum…. and on a soft surface.

    If you short press on the main button, the level of remaining is displayed via 4 green lights. When 4 lights are here, it means 100%; 3 means 75%, 2 means 50%, 1 means 25% and below.

    Camera module

    Probably the most upgraded part for the Hornet 2. The new module is highly profiled and very beautifully design. We can find this central dampening system very well integrated. The two antennas can be bent individually.

    For the basic “Aerial 4K” (non-pro) the FOV is about 112 degrees while fo the pro is 100 degrees. For the non-pro we have a SONY IMX 179 sensor and a IMX117 for the pro version. Unfortunatly these sensor chips are “old” now… 3 years old… and it will unfortunatly impact a lot the general quality of the video recordings.

    A 16Gb scandisk microSD card is included in the button. There is also a microUSB port probably to update a gimbal firware and to connect to a specifc software. Unfortunatly, no specific software is available…. especially to calibrate the gimbal. It’s really an important missing.

    Associated with the two aerial options, we can now connect the two modules to a smartphone/tablet via a 2.4G WiFi link. The Application can be downloaded for both android and iOS as “JYU”

    First annoying thing, officially in the instruction, the default WiFi password is written to be 12345678 and I tried many many time without success.

    In practice, for my module, the password was JIANGYU2016 (thanks to samste !!!!). Now the question I have,… I am not completly sure that I received the final non-pro 4K module…. but according the specications, I should have it.

    After connexion you will retrieve the live FPV video feedback… and unfortunatly the resolution is rather poor, in VGA maximum 🙁 Far from 720p preview generally we can have with Xiaomi Mi, DJI, walkera products

    One good thing, we have in picture in picture a small preview of the local map. Just press on it to switch to the map mode. A feature we can find for DJI or Hubsan Appz for example. It’s working well.

    Here only the video and photo resolution can be set. No other camera settings like exposure, shutter, color balancing… and why not the datarate quality….

    What I really like, from the menu in the first page is the possibility to replay the automatic logs stored into the microSD card.

    Ok now the moment of truth …. and let’s check the performances of this non-pro 4K module

    Here is a raw sample in 4K@25fps

    Results are not fantastic… first in term of gimbal stabilization, some microvibrations can be seen … and for some moment some “waves” appears. Awfull :(. For this second problem, I guess it’s more linked with the CMOS sensor, know to be more sensitive to jello…. We will see later than the props are mainly guilty and as soonas better are installed most microvibrations can be removed. Clearly the non-pro version in 4K don’t offer amazing results. Maybe the the 2.7K resolution @30fps should be prefered….

    Here is a snapshot of the 4K recording… we can see a huge fisheye distortion at border :(…

    Some 1080p@60fps results

    If most of the waves effect are gone, with the original props, vibrations are still here… clearly far away in term of results than a Xiaomi Mi 4K for example. @1080p…. the compression factor is also huge…. you can clearly see pixelization’s bands in homogeneous areas… and a lot of compression artefacts to render small details (trees & branch)… More far/background details are blurred ….. Results are definitively disapointing.

    Transmitter

    The general shape of the transmitter remains the same as for the first Hornet S.. The advertized control range for the FCC version is about 1000m (800m for the CE version). No switches but two shoulder dials and four buttons on the main front plus two rear small button rear. The front side got also a central 3-positions switche to select the flight modes.

    Be aware, two radios can be found. The RA13 for the basic and FPV version and the RD13 for the gimbal camera versions. The RA13 includes an Analog 13 Channels 5.8G VRX while the RD13 a specilized 2.4G WiFi receiver as well as a builtin GPS module.

    The central vertical switch select the flight mode. The middle position is the default one with both GPS & altituld hold stabilzation. The upper position represents the “Manual” mode. Via the PC software or the Appz, the manual mode can be without any flight assistance (full velocity can be achieved) and with just the altitude hold assistance (default selection). When the central switch is in the lower position, we have the “Feature flight mode” where either Headless/ Waypoints (mission planning) or the wrist module (default) can be selected.

    The left dial control the light intensity only for the first light mode. What’s a pity for example through the appz it’s not possible to assign (yet) the role of the left dial. For example to control the tilt angle of the gimbal for example.

    The right dial controls the pitch angle of the camera

    3 small lights are here. The left one when is green means the quadcopter and the radio is bound. If not (stay solid red), you can run the binding procedure as follow. Press and hold the RTH and auto-landing buttons while turnin the transmitter then within the first five second turn on the quadcopter. The right one indicates the level of battery, i.e. green when full charged and turn to red when charge is under 25%. There is also a central light linked with the buitin GPS. Actually this GPS (probably used for follow-me and Orbit mode) is not yet active. These two advanced features are actually only reserved if you own the wrist module but we can hope that a future appz/firmware update will also include them for the non-wrist module owners.

    I regret that the neckstrap hook is too short to be compatible with DJI/Xiaomi Mi tablet holder.

    PC software

    A new update of the Hornet software is also proposed. If you own the aerial version, the PC software is almost useless except to flash new firmwares. Very important, to install and to run the appz, you must have the administrator rights. Right click on the exe files and “run as administrator”. There are two way to use the software: 1) to change a setting and 2) to upgrade fimrwares (FC, receiver, remote and wrist module)

    1) RUN THE SOFTWARE TO CHANGE A FLIGHT CONTROLLER SETTINGS

    You must: Turn on the quadcopter first wait the second treeble beep then only connect the USB cable to your PC. The corresponding COM port should be available.

    2) RUN THE SOFTWARE TO FLASH A NEW FC/RECEIVER FIRMWARES

    You must: Plug the USB cable first then turn on the quadcopter and wait the purple lights flash fast then run the software as administrator.

    3) RUN THE SOFTWARE TO FLASH A NEW TRANSMITTER FIRMWARE

    You must: Plug the USB cable first between the radio (microUSB port) and your PC, turn on the radio then run the software as administrator.

    UNBOXING, ANALYSIS AND DEMO FLIGHT

    First test with all default settings. Of course a solid compass calibration was done: press the compass button on the appz or push the left stick in lower left and right stick in upper left positions. Turn twice first clockwise horizontally the machine (untill lights flash green) then noze up turn clockwise the machine twice too (the lights should stay solid green). Reboot the machine after the calibration. It’s advertized to do the compass calivration without the gimbal module install in order to not decalibrate the gimbal itself. I notice my gimbal is not perfectly leveled in the yaw direction, slight pointing to the right direction 🙁 … and unfortunatly no software/procedure available to fix this problem 🙁 🙁

    I really like the interface… simple, we can find everything immediatly and basic flight informations can be found easily. Maybe the real number of satellite received should be also printed. It’s not very clear how many satellites you need to receive in order to take off in “Normal” mode. First take off after arming the button… You definitively need to push the throttle above 70-80% to take off. It’s true at least for the take-off part. When in the air, the machine still perfectly in the air keeping its altitude with low altitude variations. The GPS & barometer stablization work very well. A good point.

    The machine flies beautifully and default PID settings offers smooth flight caracteristics. The machine when assisted by GPS & barometer is not a super fast flyer. A maximum of 5m/s can be reached. Of course most of these settings can be change in PC software/Appz.
    In term of radio control range, seems to be great. No dropout was abserved. The 2.4G FPV range will also depend of your smarphone/tablet WiFI sensivitity and beware than phone casing can block/decrease partially the RX sensitivity. I was able to fly the machine above 300m without problems My smartphone unfortunaly is not super WiFi sensitive. Much better results can be obtained and I am pretty sure than 500 and even more can be obtained. RTH works perfectly and offers a deviation limited to 1-2m maximum.. really acceptable. Flytime are about 13min before to reach 20% of remaining. so you can easily add two extra minutes… so close to 15-16min in practice so not so so far from the 18min advertized. How ever as you can especially for 4K recording, some jello and even waves can be seen in video recordings. Waves seems to be removed when the video resolution is turned into 1080p@60fps. General camera performances are relatively poor with a huge compression ratio. Small details are in general completly blurred/destroyed and you don’t have the feeling that it’s a clean 1080p recording.

    I did some other tests with the Hubsan H501 props also some 7.3″ models and as you can see below results are billions time better.

    Almost perfect stabilization….. more flight time are little bit extented as well…. so a win-win mod. Now the only limiting factor is the camera sensor. For the pro version we have a IMX 117 sensor. Here is a video taken by an action cam equiped with such sensor

    Results are better more sharp… so defintively the pro-version is highly recommended with you are looking for the Hornet 2.

    CONCLUSIONS

    Strange/mixed feeling I have with this machine. The Hornet 2 for sure improves a lot of the Hornet S results/performances. More powerfull machine in 4S from now with extented flight time. The PC software offers also some new settings and the Appz for the camera versions is really nice. But generally, I don’t understand how a 820g+ (probably more around 850g with the 1080p/5.8G FPV module) can be seen/used as a FPV machine: after a first crash, the machine will be probably in small parts. More non acro specifc flight mode. You can’t disable builtin gyros….. so you will be always with a 6-axis stablization. The only interest IMHO is the camera versions. And the non-pro version unfortunatly offers poors camera results. Only the pro-version will reach acceptable results competitive for example to a Xiaomi Mi 4K. The machine is not light, not super transportable, flight time correct without being fantastic and more …. the pro version is close to the 600USD !!! (while you can find the Xiaomi Mi 4K around 400USD !!!). More (but it’s true for 99% of advanced drones), the Appz and the machine requires new feature update to unblock for example the follow-me and the orbit flight modes for the non-wrist module owners.

    CONS

    – Poor general performances of the non-pro 4K camera
    – Jello/vibration with original props
    – Actually no follow-me/orbit without the wrist module (but should come with a appz/firmware update)
    – General interest of the FPV module (for a 820g+ full plastic based machine)
    – No camera settings available from the Appz
    – No gimbal software available actually
    – Wrong default WiFI password (at least for the non-pro version)
    – Expensive versus competitors (Xiaomi Mi 4K for example)
    – Thin and non-foldable landing skid
    – Battery hard to extract

  8. The Eachine trashcan HD was a perfectible product for at least two reasons: the presence of vibrations/jellos… and the most dramatic, the weakness of the ESC burning very fast even from 3S. Here is the new deluxe cinewhoop HD machine from Eachine:

    Now the 1080p@60 caddx turble V2 FPV-cam combo has been replaced with the new tarsier model. More important we have the V3 of the crazybee F4 based FC!!. This one upgrades ESC from 6A to some 10A (w/ peak @12A). I feel more confident about their durability in 3S…. but in 4S, I can’t guaranty 100% that’s they won’t burn. Anyway, we have a classic whoop structure full TBS/nylon based. The duct system offers some branch division to maximize durability for crashes.
    The caddx tarsier can be uptilted from the photos. With a nominal weight of 66g… we are close to be twice lighter than the lightspeed model for example. In 3S setup, the total weight is about 91g…. not so so bad for a 85mm machine. Of course, it’s more an outdoors flyer than an indoors. Three BNF versions are proposed: two with some builtin SPI receiver (FrSky non-EU & flysky AFHDS-2A) and with an external TBS crossfire nano receiver for long range FPV). If vibrations are completly removed…. this machine is very interesting. Wait & See of course.

  9. Ok was pretictable… but now we have the avalanche of compact whoop styled machine with the new 4K caddx tarsier camera FPV combo: Here is the 100mm fullspeed model up to 4S:

    The main structure is full 3K carbon based except the nylon whooped prop guard surrounding the 1935 props. 2mmm thickness is announced for the main structure… Will be enoght ? … With a standalone weight of 110g… expect a total weight around 160g in 4S… It should be ok at least for the carbon part. For the electronic, A F4 with strong 28A BLheli_S 4-in-1 ESC… No BLheli_32. Motors are 1104/5500Kv. I guess with 1935 short props, the machine will be noisy. The tarsier can be uptiled and the associated VTX can deliver up to 600Mw. All FPV settings can be tweak by IRC tramp. The structure for me should be able to remove most vibrations for the tarsier shooting….Now first feedbacks of the tarsier didn’t impressed me…. the 4K@30fps is not perfectly smooth… color rendition can be better. Of course the firmware is probably not yet enough mature… Anyway…. this machine represents an exellent cinewhoop candidate.
    With a 4S LiPo don’t expect much more than 4-5min of flight time. The fullspeed is proposed in 4 BNF configurations (crossfire nano, Flysky AFHDS-2A, FrSKy XM+, Spektrum DSM2/X) and also in PNP.

As you already noticed since close to one year, now a lot of new machines are introduced in “HD” edition, i.e. with a FPV-camera combo able to shoot 1080p@60fps videos while broadcasting the FPV signal with low latency. With the associated new Cinewhoop machines, it’s possible to have high manoeuvrable flyers shooting vibration free videos. Among these new modules, we have the Caddx Turtle V2, the Runcam split mini 2 (M12 fixed).

  12. The Fullspeed Tinyleader HD was probably the first jellofree HD FPV tinywhoop plateform mainly thanks to the Caddx Turtle V2. This latter dislike the first edition of the Runcan split minit 2

    Now the 75mm structure is hybride with a main carbon body (1mm tickness) and all guards full plastic based. Motors are mounted directly on the plastic guards themselves linked with the main body via 3 screws. In term of weight, we are still around 55g without battery (so at least 10g more heavier than the Modula7 HD). The electronic looks more or less the same i.e. a strong F4 FC with builtin 12A 4-in-1 ESC 3S compatible, 0803/11000Kv motors, a 48CH VTX delivering up to 600mW and IRC tramp compatible for controls via OSD. You can find the V2 in three different BNF version (FrSky,Flysky or Spektrum) or in PNP. Well I liked the first version… was not a monster of power but it was a real Cinewhoop jellofree…. There are not huge differences with this V2… More robust ? easier access to camera & Vtx buttons ? that are at least two opened questions associated with. Wait & see.

    In the menu, we have an old fashion H frame in 300mm format with 4mm arms but all electronics are updated: a F4 + betaOSD + a barometer, super strong individual 50A up to 6S BLHeli32/Dshot 1200 ESC, 2306/1600Kv motors associated with 7″ props!!!!. I can’t imagine in 6S!!! You will need
    a super super strong battery to avoid massive battery brownout. The VTX can output up to 800mW !!! with 40CH. No clear indication, if the VTX can be controled via the OSD… It mentions a voice control…. At least via PWM, the VTX can be controlled.
    The Runcam split mini 2 is here to broadcast both the FPV video in PAL/NTSC and to record HD videos up to 1080p@60 fps… Last element, the presence of a mini GPS module, very usefull for long range FPV flight in case of lost signal. Pre-program a RTH with a nominal altitude… and you are saved.
    For the receiver part, we have either a FrSky XM+ (medium range) or the FrSky R9 MM but this latter you will need a compatible transmitter module. I can guess this machine in 6S can probably reach top speed about 200 Km/h… a real beast. Wait & See.

  14. Dislike the term “HD” could mean, this is not a new 75 HD cinewhoop machine but “only” a new classic 75mm tinywhoop FPV machine, a new direct compatitor of the Eachine Trashcan.

    In the menu…. the same durable 75mm chassis of the trashcan with the dual-branch system reforcing considerably the extreminity of each duct’arms. For the electronic, some 15A !!! 4-in-1 ESC board…
    so no risk to cook mosfet even in 3S. Associated with, some 0803/16000Kv strong motors. The fight controller is F4 based with of course a Betaflight OSD builtin chip. The 40CH VTX offers an output power up to 200mW but no VTX control via OSD (no smartaudio or tramp support)… 🙁 The main promoted feature is the presence of the caddx EOS 1200TVL. Be aware with such advertizing… first at the end only a pure NTSC/PAL signal will be transmitted whatever before the camera got higher resolution. If higher resolution mean probably better interpolation, it means also more sensitivity to the noise and more latency… so no free lunch…. Even with the presence of a WDR feature, in low light conditions this camera can be very noisy. Whatever, the machine is announced with the support of the main 3 receivers of the market and can be found also in PNP. With a weight of 35g without battery and 55g in 2S setup… the main advantage of this Supra 7 Pro over the Trashcan is the direct 3S support. Wait & See.

For the ESC… a 4-in-1 solution up to 10A, so no problem to handle 2S voltage. They are also Dshot 600 compatible. In the other hand, no control via the OSD for the VTX …. This latter got 48 channels and is able to output up to 200mW. The FPV camera is a basic CMOS 800TVL model… Of course no HD recording coming with….. but !!!! this machine weights only 24.5g (probably 26g with the receiver installed). The HBX64 is annouced to not exceed 40g (in 1S i guess) so should be around 47-50g in 2S setup.     INTRODUCTION

    Better late than Never…. Here is my review of the Hubsan Zino. This is a foldage 3-axis stabilized 4K@30 video plateform. The FPV link is done with a specialized 5.8G connexion. Main caracteristic are solid: about 700g, 23 min of flight time and about 1km of control range. No obstacle avoidance sensors or VPU unit. The main positive point is its price!!! less than the half of a DJI mavic. Of course many many brands try to “wannabe” DJI … Almost all failed. This review comes after 3 months of the introduction of the Zino. First reviews shown a very bad GPS altitude hold performances, some toiled bowling effect and even some fly aways… We will see if with the new batch machine I received, flashed with last firmwares, the situation is improved. Here is my first elements of my review.

    Three USB cables are provided. One for iOS, one with USB-c and the last with a microUSB. Seems they are specialized cable and not simple OTG.

    Important, you can replace this cable with a simple microUSB to microUSB cable. You will need a cable extender plugged from one of these three cables.

    Unfolded, we have a 350mm machine. Everything is fully plastic based for the structure. The general quality of the plastic is average more hard than flexible. We could expect more quality for the plastic.

    The left side shows respectively from left to right: a led light showing the camera activity, a microUSB port to flash a new camera firmware and the microSD card slot. Prefer a fast U3 card, for example a 32GB formated in FAT32. If you plan to use a larger model, you will need a specific software to format the card.

    A unique power button. Press and hold 5s this button to turn on or off the Zino. When turned on, the Hubsan delivers a very treeble sound almost unaudible.

    No specific led status to visualize for example the amount of remaining of charge. It’s not a big deal, but the more important is more the presence/absense of a autostorage buitin circuit when the battery is parked for several day

    With the original charger, it takes more than 2.5h to fully charge the battery. It’s super long …. The leds are solid red when charging and becomes solid green when it’s done.

    It’s strongly advise to build a DIY 3S balancer plug with a lead power connector. Here is mine.

    It can be used to fine balancing all of the three cells. Important, when I used my own cable, I noticed that the cells 2 under load presented a voltage drop of -0.2V versus cells 1 and 3. I don’t know if it’s linked with the builtin electronic board biasing the voltage reading.

    Camera module

    null

    The gimbal system is dampened but the immediate feeling with this gimbal is its fragility…. Be sure from a medium shock on the system, the gimbal will break.

    The sensor offers to record video in 4K up to 30fps. Same for the 2.7K resolution. From 1080p, faster fps are offered (60fps).
    With the original camera firmware, the datarate is around 40Mbit/s.

    Transmitter

    The transmitter is a Mavic inspired model with the possibility to attach directly a smartphone but not a tablet out of the box.
    Everything is white…. even the buttons. It’s super hard to guess the logo printed on them especially with strong lights. So in practice, you will have to loose 3-4s to guess the role of each buttons.. There are small also. The general plastic quality is not good. It’s more a toyquadcopter transmitter than a >350USD one.

    Even worse, the sticks are fully plastic. No possibility to install some metal models. Springs are weak… Controls are imprecize. For example, it’s hard to keep a full straight one …. I don’t like the transmitter. Unfortunatly, it’s a new protocol developped by Hubsan. No possibility to control the craft with a DeviationTX compatible radio.

    The pitch of the camera can be control via this left dial. Until last firmware, this control was very touchy. It’s solved with last updates where now you can tune the rate by yourself.

    The specific microUSB port used to charge the builtin battery and to connect the transmitter to your smartphone

    A 5 pin port. This one is important if you want to flash a new RC firmware. Unfortunatly, you will need to short the two left pins. One safe solution is to use a 1.5mm JST 2positions cable.

    A maximum of a 6.3″ can be installed. If you plan to install a tablet, unfortunatly the dimensions of the transmitter are incompatible with all Mavic tablet holder available.

    As said proviously, you need to use the original cable with a cable extender. No possibility to install directly a 20cm OTG cable for example. It’s not working.

    UNBOXING, ANALYSIS AND TESTING

    The first video is the unboxing and the introduction of the “X-hubsan” appz. This latter unify all WiFi based Hubsan product. It’s a very good application in general. For example, the waypoints definition for mission planning is simple. The orbit mode also offers a lot of options. It’s great.

    As the Hubsan Zino is known to have poor GPS hold stability, be sure before each take-off to perfom locally a compass calibration. A minimum of 9 satellites is required to take off (You can fly without GPS assistance, but you have to turn off the corresponding option in the settings). This second video shows the general performances of the machine in term of GPS hold, video stabilization and advanced flight modes. If I can confirm that the GPS hold is not beyong the best, it’s not also catastrophic, at least with moderate wind conditions. The z-elevation deviation is about 1.5m and is more severe when the machine is below 3m high. The x-y deviations are about 1m.

    For the video stabilization, the performances are great….. No real complain/vibration can observed. That’s the most positive point. With the original video firmware, if the color rendition is good, the video is not super sharp especially for the background scene. Trees and branches are blurred for example whatever the resolution. In term of FPV distance, with the original firmware, seems there is a 1Km geofence barrier. For the advanced flight modes, the visual tracking model is just working great…. I liked the fact that if he lost the track, he offers to you a target re-association solution. The orbit mode works perfectly also.. One can regret the lack of specialized selfie flight modes “à la DJI”. The flight duration was reported in practice between 22-23 min. If you are using the original charger, it’s advised after a first charge, to restart the charging procedure after a couple of minutes. Some extra mAh can be stored in this way.

    With these last updates, when the sharpness is set to maximum, the general quality is improved… I even found the gimbal stabilization also improved. In another hand, no real improvement for the GPS hold stabilization. It’s not a drama but it will be for example hard to have a stable selfie video in low altitude, i.e. the machine will move constantly.

    Another introduction is the possibility to monitor the SNR of each available 5.8G WiFi channels and select the less noisy. Of course in order to maximize the video link. I was also able to go beyound 1 km. I am pretty sure some with some windsurfer installed on both antennas, we can go further.

    CONCLUSIONS

    Clearly the Hubsan Zino suffered of some imature firmwares linked with a too early introduction. Probably hubsan knew than Xiaomi will delivered soon the X8 SE. In fact the Zino is blocked between the Xiami A3 and the X8 SE. If you are looking for a brainless RTF machine ultra stable and durable, probably go for the Xiaomi A3. Anyway, if you want more advanced flight modes, a better gimbal stabilization and camera, finally flashed with all last firmwares, the Zino is a good machine and can be recommanded. It’s not an amazing plateform but a good one. Orbit mode, waypoint planner and visual tracking are really efficient. The flight duration of 23min checked in practice is good enough. But be sure with the Zino that you will need to perform each time a solid compass calibration before each take off. Actually thanks to the code f7c8f3, the Hubsan Zino can be found around 238 euros… so more or less the same price as the Xiaomo A3.

    – Loose 4-5m of altitude after a fast u-turn (fixed with the last firware 1.1.48 update)
    – Poor plastic quality for the transmitter
    – No color printed TX buttons/hard to guess with strong day lights
    – Imprecize transmitter controls/sticks
    – Need to turn on developper/USB debugging for android connexion
    – 1Km max distance hard-coded into the Zino’firmware (fixed with the last firware 1.1.48 update)
    – High compression/blurred background details (new “sharpness” option available with last firmware increase the datarate)
    – Props occlusion from mid-forward speed or fast turns
    – Need sometimes multiple USB plugging/unplugging to retrieve the video feedback
    – Need an extra 1.5mm JST XH plug for the TX’firmware update procedure
    – Long battery charging (>2.5h)=>Need to special 3S balancer plug for professional LIHV charger usage
    – Short USB cables (10cm only). Impossible to plug directly with them a tablet
    – Real 4K sensor?

    We have an hybride tinywhoop brushless FPV racer with a main 1.5mm carbon frame coupled with a full nylon/whoop structure. In term of electronic, we find the same as for the K’serie, a i.e. F4 micro FC, a 4-in-1 12A ESC board 3S compatible (and prabably 4S). For motors, 1103/10000Kv coupled with 1635 GF props. For the HD part …. still the Runcam split Mini 2… I really hope the fixed version (I think so)… and as you already know with SPCMaker, they can deliver great machines as some rubbish ones since there is almost no real tunings from their side. According to the structure, I do think this machine is finally the Jellofree HD machine from SPCMaker… Annouced to be 52g without battery, probably 54g with one of the three receiver modules proposed (FrSky D16, Flyskk AFHDS-2A and Spektrum DSM2/X).

As you already probably know, the new fashion in the micro-drones market are Cinewhoop machines, i.e. a 65-85mm prop-guarded/whooped FPV brushless quadcopter with a HD-FPV combo camera able to broadcast your favorite FPV link with low latency while recording in HD format the flight session and of course the most jellofree as possible.     Dislike most of last Tinyhood HD (Modula 7HD, TinyLeader HD, BetaFPV, etc…), here most of the structure is carbon based with an H design to be prop occlusion free. What I like also in the design, the microSD port looks easy to access. What about the access to start/stop record button ? no information yet. In the feature, it’s mentioned that the cam can be controlled as well by the OSD… It’s surprizing since as far I know until now, the Caddx turtle V2 product is not supported by Betaflight to control the triggering via a switch. So maybe they did it and if it’s true, it’s a fantastic news. For the HD-FPV part, we have the Caddx Turtle V2 model known to be first relatively insisible to vibrations (thanks to its M12 lens). The Cinebee uses some 12A BLheliS ESC coupled with strong 1103 motors (much stronger than 0802 motors as in the Modula7 HD). The price is a weight estimated about 64.4g without battery (so around 18g more heavier than the Modula 7 HD). With a 450mah 2S LiPo, the machine will turn around 85-90g… No doubt this machine is also 3S compatible. But with 40mm props… in 2S, the machine should be already powerfull enought
    Don’t forget this type of machines are not really some acro-trainer ones but more low-riding cruizers to offer stable and jellofree HD video footages. For the FPV part, the VTX can output up to 200mW should be enought for 500-600m of FPV link. The Cinebee 75HD is proposed in PNP or in three BNF versions ( FlySky ADHDS-2A, FrSky D16 and DSM2/X). My priors are relatively good on this machine…. I will try to grab one for review… I am not sure I will, but good news, I will review the final version of the Modula 7 HD. Wait & See….

  20. Remember my last Diatone GT 249+HD test with the builton RunCam Split Mini 2? A full 95mm jelly machine mainly due to the defective M8 Lens of the RCSM2. To fix that you need the new M12 model so a wider lens potentially no more compatible with the frame. To overcome this problem, Diatone decided to deliver the machine with a Caddx Turtle 2 instead:

    First of all the camera is in M12 format… and reduce drastically the amount of jello. For the other ingradients, they are the same: a good F4 flight controller with a builtin OSD, strong 25A 4S compatible 4-in-1 ESC board and 1105/5500Kv motors. For the VTX, we have a IRC tramp compatible model able to switch between 25mw up to 200mW…. So probably at the end the first 2″ FPV HD machine without jello. The new diatone exists also in 2.5″/115mm variant. Of course, I am like saint thomas…. I will believe in it if and only if I can confirm by myself that fact. Wait & see as usual…
