INTRODUCTION

The Boldclash B-05 is announced to be the lightest brushless FPV quadcopter thanks to a F3 tennyfish board, super light 0703 motors and 4-in-1 4A BLheli_S/Dshot 600 board. 32g with the battery is advertised!!! impressive, just slightly more heavier than a brushed TinyWhoops. For the FPV part, a 600TVL CMOS 48CH 25mW AIO FPV camera is installed. This machine is a direct competitor if the Eachine DustX58. Let’s check this new product.

BOX CONTENT

null

+ 1 x Boldclash B-05
+ 1 x 350mAh 1S LiPo with microLOSI connector
+ 1 x USB charging cable
+ 8 x Spare props (4 CW, 4 CCW)
+ 1 x Screwdriver
+ 1 x Instruction manual (English)

OVERVIEW

The Boldclash B-05 is 66mm brushless racer with a builtin carbon prop guard. It employs an X-design with a lower carbon frame. The FPV AIO module is jailed into a super thin plastic canopy structure.

null

As you can see, the DustX58 is more compact, i.e. 58mm vs the 66mm of the B-05. In a first glance, we can see that the prop guard is much more thinner versus the Eachine version.

null

66mm machine.

null

It’s confirmed, the thickness is only 0.5mm only !!!! versus 1mm for the Eachine. In practice this propguard looks super flexible… and the durability is an open question in a first glance. But in practice…. the guard resisted to all crashed I had….

null

The main lower carbon plate is 1.30mm so much more solid that the prop guard look like.

null

-FRONT VIEW

The look is pretty cool especially with the top canopy element. The props are the same than for the Eachine dustX58 and KingKong Tiny 7.

null

Installed front a super tiny button to bind the FrSky D8 builtin receiver.

With the antenna mod

-SIDE VIEW

null

The right side welcomes the microUSB port of the teenyfish F3 board. No problem to insert the USB cable.

-REAR VIEW

The microLOSI connector.

-BOTTOM VIEW

The 4-in-1 4A ESC board.

With the rubber band to attach the battery.

null

-WEIGHT

null

22.3g standalone !!!! it’s close to 3g more lighter.

null

With the original battery 350mAh LiPo we reach 33.4g so 1.4g more heavier than the advertised 32g.

null

with a nanotech 500mAH LiPo

null

Motors

The same 0703 brushless motoro but only spinning @15000Kv versus the 20000Kv the dustX58. No real chance to run them in 2S configuration. In anycase the the ESC board won’t support 2S voltage.

null

The shaft diameter is 1.5mm. Notice the props are identical to the King Kong Tiny 7. In practice, there are known to introduce some Jello in the FPV link. Some other 30mm alternative can be prefered. For example the Eachine Revanger 55/Aurora 68 quadriblade props can be installed. Another alternative are the triblade husbsan props trimmed to 30mm.

null

LiPo

A 350mAh model announced to be 25C…. After the end of each flight, the battery is pretty hot. Probably a model with 50C should be prefered.

Camera module

The 600TVL CMOS 1/4″ camera coupled with a 25mW 48CH 5.8G VTX. The Field of View is fixed to 120 degrees so ideal for both indoors and outdoors applications.

null

In the read side, two buttons can be found. The front one if shortly pressed flip upside down the video signal. If long pressed you can cycle between NTSC and PAL systems. The rear button set the Vfreq and the Vband if shortly pressed or long pressed respectively.

UNBOXING, ANALYSIS, BINDING, CONFIGURATION AND DEMO FLIGHT

First good news, the TeenyFish F3 board is flashed with the last Betaflight 3.1.7. As for all F3fish board, you need first to plug the battery before to connect the FC with your USB cable in order to have working betaflight connexion. The FrSky D8 received is connected via Serial SBUS connexion. Good news, Dshot 600 is selected by default. No specific PIDs settings have been optimized for the B-05. Only the “angle” 6-axis stabilized flight mode is preconfigured. Since there is no builtin buzzer… you can play with the buzzer strenght in BLheli configurator to increase to buzz sound emitted after the period of inactivity. An indirect way to locate your lost machine.

As for the DustX58, the punch out of this machine are not impressive just a bit better what you can have with good brushed motors. Clearly the 0703 brushless motors are not yet the right answer for such light machines. Forget powerloops with this machine but it’s ok for basic flips and rolls in acro. Compared to the DustX58, the machine offers less bounce back/oscillations with the default Betaflight settings. So we can hope to have even better results witl some little optimization. That’s a good point. Unfortunatly, as expected with these props, some little jello can be noticed in the FPV signal. Probably the fist mod to do is to install better 30mm props. Compared to the DustX58, flight time are also much better. We have a solid 4min while with the dustX58, only 2min30 can be obtained with the 450mAh. With the Nanotech 500mah, 5min-5min30 can be obtained. Thats great. The machine is fast and very fun to fly in tiny spaces. Of course in strong wind conditions, the machine is deeply impacted. The FPV signal is good, in the average with this AIO module. For indoors flights, you can have super precize controls … it’s great. The FPV signal can cross several walls without difficulity so no problem to fly around all the house.

CONCLUSIONS

The devil is in the detail… and if the DustX58 and the B-05 are very close in term of electronic caracterics thanks to a lighter solution, the boldclash model offers much better flight time around 4min. This machine is not a super power acro machine, no miracle actually with 0703 brushless motors.. But it’s the B-05 is great indoors/outdoors machine super nible in tiny spaces. Better/lighter props and a better battery can boost even more performances.

PROS

+ 33.4g brushless FPV racer !!!
+ Indoors/outdoors machine
+ F3 Teenyfish board
+ FrSky D8 w/telemetry
+ Betaflight 3.1.7
+ 4min of flight time
+ BLheli_S/Dshot 600 ESC

CONS

– Bit of jello in FPV signal
– Not super powerfull for acro figures
– No buzzer
