  2. INTRODUCTION Just after the TopFX F7X and just before the new Aomway commander V2, the Eachine EV200D, and the new Skyzone SKY03 offers a huge diagonal FOV of 43 degrees !!!! This must be compared with the 32 degrees of the former SKY02 V+ for example. The new FOV is not the unique novelty… The DVR module is also upgraded to record in H264 format the RF feed or any AVin source. The Sky03 still of course offers a builtin 48CH diversity 5.8G VRX, a frontal VGA camera, a builtin headtracker, the possibility to display an HD source via a miniHDMI plug and support 2D/3D Side By Side. Two other addings… a frontal horizontal LED bar light and antifog fan…. Let’s star to discover this new deluxe FPV goggles…. BOX CONTENT + 1 x Skyzone SKY03 + 1 x Main facial mask + 3 x Foam addon masks + 2 x 5.8G linear antennas + 2 x Headtracker PS-2 cable + 1 x RCA to jack 3.5mm video cable + 1 x Powercable DC connector to XT60 + 1 x Instruction manual (English) Only one of the three facial addon foam masks has a double side tape. OVERVIEW The goggles chassis is more or less the same as for the SKY02.. the general plastic quality is great, very well build. You can find the Sky03 in black or white. -FRONT VIEW Immediatly visible the Sky03 integrates now a Fan on top as AntiFog solution. Unfortunatly no manual switch to turn on/off it. In practice you can adjust the rotation speed only via a setting in the general menu interface. The white bar is the long horizontal LED light turned off by default. A lof of different visual effect can be selected in the general menu. Definitively a “cool” feature The frontal camera is a basic CMOS VGA model with a limited FOV of 60 degrees. Despite being basic, it’s very usefull to monitor the front event especially at landing or take off periods. -SIDE VIEW Another novelty, now there is a powerbutton to be pressed more than 4s to turn on/off the goggles. -REAR VIEW By default, some diopter are installed… No indication about their respective correction… But the size is compatible with typical diopters available in the market. With the addon element taped on the main plastic clipsable facial mask. It’s really confortable with. -UPPER VIEW -BOTTOM VIEW Centrally the two main sliders to ajust the IPD…from 57.5 to 69.5mm …. Maybe for very large heads,.. 69.5mm won’t be enough. The PS-2 connector for the builtin headtracker module… working in PPM mode. The main ports remain the same… Except the microHDMI has been replaced with a miniHDMI. We can fin a microUSB port to retrieve recorded file and to eventually flash a new firmware for the DVR. A microSD card port is also here… Be aware only good class 10 cards are accepted…. If not, when you will press on the “REC” button, nothing appears … or recordings stop after 1-2s maximum. -WEIGHT Close to 240g…. Builtin Screens Each LCD screen offers a 800×600 resolution…. so in theory less than the 1280×1024 of the F7X’ LCOS screen. Anyway, the LCOS technology implies polarisation mirrors… and introduces some artefacts blurring a bit the general quality… So the main question for large FOV goggles: Is-it better to have a lower native resolution with a direct projection or an higher resolution but with mirroiring ? Here is a direct view inside the goggles for an NTSC in comparaison with the former SKY02 V+ It’s obvious that the FOV is largely increased…. The immersion is impressive. The aspect ratio is also in 4:3 format… In comparaison with the 16:9 format for the TopFX F7X I did a test with with these basic OSD information displayed in each four corners For NTSC, it seems that the signal is partially cropped at each border, especially for the left and right borders….with few lines removed. For PAL source rendition, we have for the SKY03 vs the SKY02 V+ and the TopFX F7X With the following PAL layout we obtain For PAL… it’s more top & botton parts which are slightly cropped… Anyway, whatever the TV system…. I find that the video signal is partially blurred when you wear the glasses especially in the central area. More whatever the IPD ajustement, you still have the feeling that the video is a bit doubled……. Clearly I am not sure that the default provided diopter provided by default are the right ones for normal view capacity. I asked to 2-3 other persons with perfect vision to confirm my impression (in comparaison with the Sky02 V+ results)… All of them confirmed my remarks. Paradoxally, when you look with one eye only one of the screen, the image rendition is perfect…. I also tested the AVin capacity… No problem to display an extern CVBS source…. More, you can record the external flux via the DVR It’s a great little feature…. But dislike the SKY02 V+, the SKY03 won’t turn automatically when you plug a source in the AVin… you need to select manually the input into the AVin mode. I was able to display without problem an HD source via the HDMI connexion… I tried different resolution from my laptop… each time successfully For the SKY03 model, Skyzone gave up their former 3D system with a dual Vfreq to a more classic Side By Side When you turn the goggle into 3D (long press the “mode” button, the 3D effect is perfectly rendered MENU AND FUNCTIONS If you long press more than 4s the large left “Camera”‘ button, you can run the band scanning. The process to overview the 48CH is relatively fast, less than 5-6s to scan everything. More a bar display is plotted with the #CH in the x-axis and the corresponding RSSI value in y-axis. After the scanning, you can manually navigate into each Vfreq by pressing the “Rec” & “Mode” buttons. To quit the scanning mode, one more time long press the “Camera” button. On the right side, if you long press this time the “Track” button, you enter in the main menu with five different panels. The first one is dedicaced to headtracker module The second more to the display settings: brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, sharpness The third tunes the DVR where you can for example perform “cycling recording” replacing previously recorded file as soon as the microSD card is full. You have the option to start recording as soon as the goggles are turned on as well… The fourth selects some OSD settings and the LED bar display mode. A lot of are available, around 25 different choices. The last one controls the speed of the fan… without the possibility to turn off it completly… the minimum setting is “ultra low”…. UNBOXING, ANALYSIS AND TESTING When you turn on the Sky03, the skyzone log appears during 3s. With the facial mask installed, the sky03 is really confortable. The buttons are easy to access. But as said previously, I felt not super confortable in term of focus…. for me the central section is a bit blurred and despite any PID ajustement, the left & right images superposition is not perfect with a very small presence of a doubling effect…. Well absoluptly nothing catastrophic don’t worry…. I am pretty sure with more adapted diopters (-400, -600 ?) the focus can be solved. As far I know it’s a problem more or less similar with the Fatshark HD3… Seems it’s really hard to produce a large FOV goggles with so small eyes-screens distance. A raw example of an NTSC source Notice the NTSC source is saved in 720×480 @25fps !!!… In general NTSC are saved into 30fps. The video looks a but choppy by moment… Clearly less good than any NTSC source recorded smoothly @30fps… I hope it can be solved by a firmware update. I least no desynchronization with an HD source… a good point for Picture in Picture post video editing. More I noticed, sometimes the file stops by itself to record or produce a corrupted file …. Generally the DVR seems sensitivive to the quality/brand of the microSD card… I hope it won’t be like the walkera vitus where it was very hard to find a 100% compatible microSD card. For PAL source,, we have More time to time, the DVR refused to boot….and I needed to turn on one more time the goggles… sometimes, when you press recording, it starts to record but it stops by itself after a couple of second… Clearly, the DVR module seems sensitive to the microSD card choice. I used Toshiba Excecia pro U3 with a writing speed of 80mb/s for my testing so far superior to the 5kb/s required for the recording whatever a PAL or NTSC source. CONCLUSIONS Well …. I got mixed feeling with the new Sky03 model… If clearly I liked the general quality build, the accesories, all functionalities FPV oriented, all input/output ports…. the general quality of the screens, the capacity the display perfectly an HD source… I can’t not mention the little blurring/out of focus feeling I have when i wear them…. With an high probabitity it’s linked with the type of diopters coming with… but I am afraid most of owners will complain of the out of focus effect. Maybe 43 degrees it too wide ? It’s an open question.. Another negative point is the DVR erratic bahaviours when time to time it’s not recording well all the FPV session. More the NTSC recording looks a bit choppy with 25fps only…. PROS + Complete bundle + Great quality build + 43 degrees FOV + IPD ajustement + 2D/3D SBS + HDMIin + Builtin DVR + Frontal camera + Fan + Facial masks + Easy Vfreq scanning + Headtracker CONS – Central area blurred/out of focus ? Default diopter not adapted the normal vision case ?, too wide FOV ? – NTSC recording @25fps instead of 30fps – NTSC format partially cropped – No 16:9/4:3 aspect ratio selection – DVR module not booting sometimes – Some Corrupted DVR recordings reported (rarely/depends the quality of the microSD card) – Fan can’t be turn off completly manually This FPV goggles have been courtesy provided by Banggood in order to make a fair and not biased review. I would like to thank them for this attitude. You can find it actually for 479USD at https://www.banggood.com/Skyzone-SKY03-3D-5_8G-48CH-Diversity-Receiver-FPV-Goggles-with-Head-Tracker-Front-Camera-DVR-HD-Port-p-1237218.html Cet article TEST: SKYZONE SKY03 est apparu en premier sur Drone-Maniac !!!!!!!. 3. In the valse of the new racers of the week, a novel addition with the HGLRC 120mm: https://www.banggood.com/HGLRC-HORNET-120mm-FPV-Racing-Drone-PNP-Omnibus-F4-OSD-13A-Blheli_S-ESC-5_8G-25100200350mW-VTX-p-1254621.html Full carbon based with a thickness at least of 2mm for both arms and the central cage. Of course from now, there is a F4+OSD flight controller but with MPU6800 gyros, a good news for the stabilization after the SPCmaker 90NG fiasco. Strong 13A (20A@peak) BLheli_S/Dshot600 ESC … officially only supporting up to 3S…. but probably more.. The FPV rig is based on a super 600TVL CCD Super HAD II CCD sensor’s based camera and a 48CH VTX delivering up 350mW. The general architecture looks solid… A +5V/3A builtin BEC so no problem to feed both the FPV rig and the receiver. It’s a PNP machine so you will have to provide your own receiver and battery…. Seems a nice racer … but I would like to see a model with a builtin runcam swift micro … to record in 1080p@60 as well Specification: Brand name: HGLRC Item name: HORNET 120mm FPV Racing Drone PNP Frame Kit: 120mm carbon fiber (3mm) Flight controller: HGLRC XJB F413(Omnibus F4.V2-Blheli_S 13A) VTX: HGLRC XJB-TX20.V2 20X20MM PIT/25/100/200/350mW Camera: HGLRC XJB-ELF Camera Motor: HGLRC FH1106 6000KV 2-3S Propeller: HGLRC 2540-3 Weight: 78g (without battery) HGLRC XJB F413 Omnibus F4.V2 Micro F4.V2 Flight Control Board ( D-Shot Version) MPU: MPU6000-SPI CPU: STM32F405RGT6, dual 8K. 4. Remember the Popular MJX Bugs 3 ? then the B2W, a direct competitor of the Hubsan H501A… Then followed the Bugs 6 a 5.8G beginner cruizer… Here is a new compagnon for the B6, i.e. the B8-pro in 300mm format: https://www.banggood.com/MJX-B8-Pro-Bugs-8-Pro-5_8G-FPV-Brushless-With-C5830-Camera-Racer-Drone-Quadcopter-RTF-p-1254331.html The machine is still full plastic based … but shifts from a 2S to a 3S solution thanks to a 1300mAh/45C LiPo. Motors are still 2204 type… Still no open source flight controller installed…. it’s more a plug and fly machine spirit. Another major novelty is the addition of an acro flight mode… ideal for acrobatic flights. There is the type of 5.8G AIO FPV-camera… with a max power of 200mW. The bugs 8 still uses the 2-way radio protocol with basic telemetry alarm for the low voltage and out of control cases. The FPV signal and the control range should be ok under the radius of 200m…. It’s not really a racer, not a docile machine as well … but of the vibrations are ok and the sensivity of the FPV camera acceptable, can be a nice first FPV cruizer acrobatic able too. 5. A return of an unsual design “+” design is proposed by Diatone with the GT-M3 model: https://www.banggood.com/Diatone-2018-GT-M3-Normal-Plus-110mm170mm-RC-Drone-FPV-Racing-F4-OSD-TBS-G1-600TVL-20A-BLHeli_S-PNP-p-1254008.html According to advanced FPV pilots, the “+” offers even more faster top speed …. In another hand, the Field Of view is greatly impacted by the front motors. The electronic is updated to 2018 elements: a F4+OSD board with MIC20689 6-axis gyros/accelero… I really hope this MPU chip is softmounted… to avoid the hypersensitivity of this new generation of MPU (cf the SPCMaker 90NG problem). The FPV camera is obviously a CCD model…. ESC are rated up to 20A (BLheli_S/Dshot600) and motors are 1408/4000Kv….. The machine is boosted via a 4S setup … and should develop a beasty power…. We retrieve the same central aluminium cage protecting all the camera & electronic tower. The machine is only available in PNP edition actually. 8. There is a new brushless compact FPV racer in 90mm size: https://www.banggood.com/Happymodel-Trainer90-FPV-Racing-RC-Drone-BNF-Omnibus-F3-OSD-5A-Blheli_S-ESC-5_8G-25mW-48CH-VTX-1S-p-1251252.html The trainer 90 is full carbon based and come fully disassembled. Luckely, connectors are here everywhere and it should take 5-10min maximum to build the machine. Important remark: no propguard, no camera pod, no motor protection… and the flight controller is directly exposed… so .. the durability of the machine is clearly raised especially for 0703/0706 motors known to be fragile… the top part can pop up more easily. For the electronic, we have a basic F3+OSD flight controller, a 4-in-1 1S 5A BLheli_S/Dshot600 ESC board. The FPV rig is classic with a 600TVL CMOS 1/4″ sensor + 48CH/25mW 5.8G VTX. An originaly….. you can choose between 0703 15000Kv or 0706 type…. The weights will go from 24.7g to 30g… for the 0706 version more adapted for outdoors applications. I would say the 0703 can be more an indoors trainer while the 0706 more for outdoors…. Two choices of microreceiver are proposed: a FrSky D8 with RSSI or a FlySky AFHDS-2A. The battery is a LiHV model to boost even more performances. 9. INTRODUCTION The Eachine EX1 is a new compact brushless video plateform including a basic 1080P camera broadcasting a FPV signal with 5.8G WIFi link without any Electronic Stabilization (EIS). This EX1 is also branded by JJRC as the JJPro X3 HAX. The EX1 can be seen as a new competitor of the Hubsan H501A and the MJX BUG 2W. Dislike the H501A, here no advanced flight modes but basic GPS assistance and altitulde hold. Via the 5.8G link, a 300m video link is promised. Let’s have a look to this new RTF machine. BOX CONTENT + 1 x Eachine EX1 + 1 x 2S 2000mAh LiPo (with proprietary connexion) + 1 x 1080P/5.8G WIFi camera FPV module + 1 x Transmitter (using 4xAA batteries not included) + 2 x Spare props (1 CW, 1 CCW) + 1 x Wrench prop installer + 1 x Screwdriver + 1 x USB to microUSB cable + 1 x Smartphone holder + 1 x Instruction manual (English) OVERVIEW The EX1 machine is a little bit smaller than Hubsan H501A, i.e. 255mm versus 280mm. The body is highly profiled built into a very good plastic. As the H501A and the B2W, a 1080P/WiFi camera system is added this time not inside the main body but as an external module. -FRONT VIEW When the camera module is installed, the lens orientation is fixed with a negative angle about -10 degrees targetting the ground. No possibility to set this angle. Like the two others machines, motor’s pods are transparent with blue light on front and green on rear. -SIDE VIEW No visible port …. -REAR VIEW With the battery clipsed. -UPPER VIEW One unique button. A short press to turn on the EX1… Press and hold the button more than 3s to turn off. -BOTTOM VIEW -WEIGHT With everything installed, the machine reaches close 367g…. Motors The machine welcomes independant ESC jailed just below motors inside the motor pod. 220uF capacitor are installed on each ESC. It will help to clean the video signal as much as possible. 1806 brushless motors are installed, the same type as for the H501A and the B2W. 5mm shaft section. No problem to plug up to 6″ props and even the 6.3″ hubsan’s model. LiPo A 2S proprietary 2000mAh LiPo without any indication of the current level of the charge. If the battery can easily inserted, you really need to press strongly the plastic tab to release it from the EX1. A small microUSB port is here to recharge the battery. When plugged into a +5V USB port, a small blue light stays solid when charging The light turns off as soon as the charging is over Camera module The 1080P camera is an external module super easy to clip/to remove. It offers a diversity system tuned on the 5.8G band. A wide angle is installed offering 120 degrees approximatively of Fielf Of View. Notice, the lens is not perfectly installed inside the casing and can move a bit… increasing microvibrations in recordings. You need to insert a microSD card class 10 minimum. It’s not possible to access to the card without removing the camera module. Maybe a good point in case of crash.. little risk to loose the memory card in this case. When the camera is not recording, after being activated at least one by pressing on the camera button, the module shows a red slow flashing light. When it’s recording, the red light blinks faster. To open the camera module, you need to remove two tiny screws latteraly with a thin screwdriver We have a M7 lens thread The top blue WiFI PCB welcome two 5.8G antennas while the backside is the DVR module. A class 10 minimum is required 1080p files are recorded with a huge compression factor and a low datarate … pixelization artefact will be huge Here is raw video sample….. The general quality is really poor and not acceptable for a 1080p module…. Another huge negative port, at least for a lot of Android users. The WiFi channels used to broadcast the video signal is the 149 and the 153 Unfortunatly these channels are available only for the US & China It means by consequence most europeans android users, especially with last devices, the WiFi module won’t be visible ….. and no possibility to change these channels on the camera module itself. In this case, you can – Reinstall a fresh Android OS and select English(US) as location. Be sure to remove your SIM card if it’s a phone…. Complete the installation before to reinsert the SIM. – Try this modification with ADB: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel/themes/mod-wifi-country-code-fix-root-required-t3558044 There is a webinterface @192.168.1.10 where you can only update potentially a new camera firmware. Disassembling It’s super easy to open the EX1. You will have to disconnect two cables linked with the GPS module to release the top canopy part. As you can see, the GPS module is shielded with a two layers copper material but the protection don’t feel completly the back cover…. Maybe a fix is to add more EMI paper there. On the main flight controller everything is connected via dedicaced plugs. The baromter is well protected with piece of foam. Generally everything look clean. In the bottom position, two free UARTs are available…. maybe there is a small hope than a firmware can be updated that way…. The 2.4G receiver is installed front. We have a XN297L and one unique antenna. It’s the first time I see a 2-way radio protocol based on the XN297L RFchip. In practice, there is a little chance that this protocol can be emulated via a nRF24L01+ for DeviationTX/OpenTX. To offer around 300m and more of control range, the datarate is probably 250kbit/s. Transmitter The transmitter chassis is small, compact and light with good gimbals. One small LCD display is here to show all informations. In the field, you need a super good vision to real all values. More, with strong direct daylights, it’s almost impossible to read telemetry informations. You will need 4xAA batteries to feed the radio. Ni-Mh accu are working with. On the top right, one unique switch to select Altitude hold, GPS hold and RTH respectively. The role of each button are explained as follow. What a pity, no basic logos printed directly on the transmitter. To engage the compass calibration procedure, you need to push the left stick in the lower-left position and the right stick in the top-right. The front lights will flash. Turn counter-clockwise relatively fast the machine installed horizontally then when you have solid green lights rear, noze up, turn one more CCW until blue front lights are here. The transmitter displays the quadcopter level of battery on the top left. Velocity, altitude and distance from the take-off location are printed. If you plan to use a tablet, it’s also possible to install DJI phantom tablet holder UNBOXING, ANALYSIS AND DEMO FLIGHT After spending a couple of days to find how to have a compatible Android devices, I was able to test the EX1. Of course, the machine was perfectly calibrated directly in the field with sunny and windfree conditions. First things, when you connect the machine, if you don’t arm the machine within the first 1-2 minutes… it’s no more possible to arm… You will need to reboot all the system. By default, in altitude hold the machine take softly…. but I was not able to have a working auto-take off function… The altitulde hold is correct with relatively small altitude variations. The machine is silent too… I could expect a more noisy machine with relatively small props. The problem comes immediatly after you turn into the GPS mode … It’s not working !!!!!! the machine continues to drift as in altitude hold… You need to land and to re-take off to have a working GPS mode !!!! Weird…. More, for RTH it’s the same story, as soon as you engage the RTH, you can’t release it ….. so you have to be sure there will be a small deviation from the take off location….. and when the machine has landed… one more time you have to turn off everything to re-arm !!!!! In altitde hold, the machine flies relatively well is pretty fast…. In GPS mode, despite receiving more than 13 satellites, you can feel the machine not super stable… even showing some Toilet Bowling effects…. You can recalibrate the compass one more time…. weird mouvements are still here. Maybe the GPS module need to be more shielded… On your FPV display, you can feel a lot vibrations/jellos…. the camera sensor need to be more secured and probably the machine better well balanced props. It’s really disapointing…. In term of control range, I was able to go over 300m … with both the video & controls. As soon as you are loosing the transmission link, a RTH is engage and the machine climbs at 30m!!!! even if you were < 30m... Flight times are about 12min in average..... At last, I regret the absence of advanced flight modes..... no follow-me, no orbit, no path planning... we can also regret than important kinetic informations are not also displayed in the App. CONCLUSIONS The conclusion will be easy to do…. I do not really advise this machine especially versus the Hubsan H501A & the Bug B2W… The EX1 is inferiour to every sectors: not stable machine in GPS mode, poor camera performances, a lot of jello, no advanced flight modes…. and incompatible with most europeans android devices….. Be sure than in 2018 will emerge similar machines but this time with EIS in the menu. PROS + Brushless quadcopter + Basic 1080p camera + GPS assistance + Telemetry informations sent on the radio + Good quality build + 300-350m of control/video range CONS – 5.8G Wifi link not compatible with most and recent european android devices – GPS stabilization not accurate (Toilet Bowling Effect) – Flight mode selection buggy (requires to reboot the machine) – Need to reboot the machine after a RTH – Poor camera performances: 20fps only, poor light sensitivity, color not accurate – A lot of Jello in the video – No flight informations displayed in the Appz, only via the transmitter – Flipped video by default – One unique 3-way switch to select all flight modes – Small transmitter LCD screen, almost invisible in daylight conditions – Auto take-off/landing buttons not working efficiently – RTH can’t be stopped mid-flight – No EIS – No advanced flight modes (Orbit mode, path planning, follow-me) This quadcopter have been courtesy provided by Banggood in order to make a fair and not biased review. 15. A new 3-in-1 AIO FPV camera is announced including also builtin 720p recordings: https://www.gearbest.com/receiver-transmitter/pp_1527671.html The total weight is annouced to turn around 8g. Can be powered directly from a 1S source ([3.5V – 5.5V]). The module seems small enought to be installed even into < 100mm machines. The camera is basic CMOS model with 120 degrees of FOV. The output power of the 5.8G VTX can be switched between 0mW, 25mW and 200mW. With such kind of product there are some important questions which can be answered only by advanced testings: 1) What will be the extra latency introduced to encode in 720p the video stream and 2) Is a real genuine 720p source recorded or a NTSC one extended to 720p by interpolation ? 17. Remember the RealAcc Scops100, the first compact micro Y4 FPV racer ? Here is a new 110mm PNP variant introduced by Dragonfly: https://www.gearbest.com/brushless-fpv-racer/pp_1527579.html With this new model, no more inverted fourth motor but rear motors are superposed with a double carbon tail system. Motors are also upgraded to 1105/7000Kv version so more powerfull. For the electronic, we have a classic F3+OSD flight controller. We have also a 10A 4-in-1 ESC board BLheli_S/Dshot600 compatible. The FPV camera is a 600TVL probably with a CMOS sensor coupled with a standalone 25mW 5.8G VTX. The camera module is orientable. No information about the total weight and if it comes with a battery or not. Main Features: – 3K carbon fiber frame kit has good impact resistance performance – Front-facing 600TVL HD camera can take clear photos, 15 – 45-degree angle up for better flight view – Adopts 1105 7000KV high power motor to speed up faster and faster – Lightweight module design, suitable for indoor flight – Omnibus F3 FC is integrated with OSD and 5.8G 25mW 48CH image transmitter, providing real-time display of flight state – 4-in-1 ESC provides stable power – Supports DShot600 protocol which has better anti-interface performance Specifications: Fuselage wheelbase: 110mm Brushless motor: 1105 7000KV Brushless ESC: 4-in-1 BLHeli – S 10A Flight controller: Omnibus F3 OSD Transmits power: 25mW 48CH Camera: 600TVL Propeller: 2345 2.4 inch Cet article NEWS: Dragonfly Y4 110 est apparu en premier sur Drone-Maniac !!!!!!!. 18. INTRODUCTION The Zhicheng Z8 is probably the fiftieth WiFI toyquadcopter of the year. In the menu, nothing really original, i.e. a brushed quadcopter with altitude hold and a 720p FPV feedback for the 2mpx version. There is also a deluxe version integrating a wide angle (not yet sold). Let’s have a quick tour of this basic toyquadcopter mainly targetting beginners BOX CONTENT + 1 x Zhicheng Z8W + 1 x Transmitter (using 4xAA batteries not included) + 1 x 450mAh 1S LiPo with JST XH 2.5mm connector + 1 x USB charging cable + 4 x Spare props (2 CW, 2 CCW) + 1 x Screwdriver + 1 x Instruction manual (English/chinese) OVERVIEW The machine uses the Moment Selfie drone rectangular design with a cage surrounding all the props. Here no real risk to hit the props with fingers. The plastic quality is in the average… a relatively hard plastic … probably a recycled one.. In case of major crash, the plastic will crack in several pieces. -FRONT VIEW A central pinhole for the WiFi camera module. I regret the absence of a front light for LOS flight. It helps a lot to keep your orientation. -SIDE VIEW -REAR VIEW -UPPER VIEW One unique button to turn on/off the machine. Press & hold this button more than 3-4s. One small green light is present. -BOTTOM VIEW Not a lot of free room available when the battery is installed. Probably a 0.5cm longer model could be installed. -WEIGHT Close to 59g with the battery installed Motors 8mm coreless motors are installed. Notice for motor maintenance, you will need to remove all the top canopy structure. A relatively long unscrewing session will be required. LiPo A basic 450mAh 1S LiPo with JST XH (2.54mm) connector. It’s not a frequent connector met. Camera module A builtin 2.4G WiFi module is integrated. Two CMOS sensor are propsed: one 0.3mpw with VGA resolution and one 2mpx module with 720p transmission The lens can be oriented from 0 degrees down to -90. We have a M6 pinhole lens. Probably the Wide angle version has a larger thread. Transmitter A good radio gamepad style easy to grab. The two sticks are flat more adapted for thumbers. Two shoulder buttons are here. The left one select one of the three speed modes while the right one performs a 360 degrees flops. Notice there are also four button on the right side of the front panel. Unfortunatly the camera & photo ones are not working directly. TO trigger the photo/video recording, you will need to use the Application…. So no video session without a smartphone installed. By consequence a shorter range. To arm the machine you have to click on the left stick. Be aware, if you click on the right stick you can stop motors immediatly even if you are mid-flight. No problem to install a smartphone up to 6″ format You have a 2-in-1 MCU+2.4G RF chip It’s a MX5323. In practice, it will be very hard to hack the radio protocol. Unfortunatly I was not able to bind this machine with an existing radio protocol available in DeviationTX. According to the datasheet, the max output power is 13dBM. UNBOXING, ANALYSIS AND DEMO FLIGHT The application can be dowloaded for iOS and Android via their respective QR code. The WIFi link is 2.4G based only so no problem of compatibility if it were in pure 5.8G WiFi. The interface is classic. You can trigger the photo and video recording, select the speed mode. You can also control the machine via the smartphone If you plan to use the transmitter, you will need to bind first the transmitter to the quad before to connect the machine to your smartphone. As for all WiFI FPV link, this one offer an important latency > 300ms and a poor frame rate (maximum of 15fps). More versus distance, the frame rate will decrease more and more. Clearly it’s not possible to fly FPV precisely in tiny spaces but outdoors and in calm wind conditions, the WiFi link is usefull to monitor the current scene. The 720p preview is good with a relatively good light sensitivity. When you arm the machine, motors will start to turn at low speed. When you will apply a first throttle input, the machine will take off super fast and be stabilized relatively well. In windfree conditions and without any object below, the altitude stabilization is efficient but versus time the machine will drift horizontally. Without GPS, no miracle. The first speed mode is really slow for forward/backward/left and right mouvement. It’s more adapted for indoors applications. In the other hand, the yaw rate is relatively fast. From the second and the last third mode, rates are increased. Whatever even in sport mode, the machine is not super fast but turn well and is stable. Without any inputs commands and EIS, the video feedback can be relatively stable. The flight duration is limited to 4min…. a bit disapointing. The control range is ok within a radius of 30-40m. One remark, I was not able to have a working file when I pressed the video recording button. CONCLUSIONS A basic WiFi machine relatively stable and safe. Rates are more adapted for beginners. This machine is more dedicaced for indoors applications since it’s a super wind resistant model. The 720p preview is crisp and precize. The Z8 has a limited field of view (~70 degrees) and I advise more the wide lens version. To resume, no real positive point but also not very negative ones too… PROS + Easy flyer + Indoors beginner trainer + Correct 720p WiFi feedback + Full props protection + Lens orientable + Good radio CONS – Not wind resistant – Current Android not recording video – 4min of flight time – No wide angle – YaP (Yet another Protocol) – No frontal light This quadcopter have been courtesy provided by Banggood in order to make a fair and not biased review. 19. You liked the Runcam Split 2 ? the great combo able to record at 1080p@60 while broadcasting the FPV signal with low latency ? … If yes, you will be crazy about the new incoming shrinked version: the Runcam Split Mini. Oscarliang just grabbed a prototype for a preview: https://oscarliang.com/runcam-split-mini-camera/ Not a lot of informations yet available. The product should be lunched in a couple of days. We can expect more or less the same performances as for the split with a latency in average of 38ms. Notice it’s a double layer system in 20mmx20mm format… Standalone without any screws, standoff and microSD card, the new system weights 14.5g…. Probably we can dream to see such kind of new camera-DVR system into 3″ FPV racer…. Specifications: – HD FOV 155° / FPV FOV 130° – HD Video Resolution / frame rate: 1080p60fps / 1080p30fps / 720p60fps – Dimensions: PCB 29*27*11mm (20mm mounting pattern) / Lens Module 19*19*22mm – Power Voltage/Current: 5-17V / 430mA when idle, 540mA-650mA when recording – Weight: 14.5g without any standoff & screws – Integrated Microphone (but not for FPV) Cet article NEWS: Runcam Split Mini est apparu en premier sur Drone-Maniac !!!!!!!. 20. INTRODUCTION The Hubsan H122D X4 Storm is a new racer style from Hubsan. It’s a brushed model… . Yes strange choice when nowdays 90% of FPV racers are brushless. In order to increase the powerlift of the H122D, this new model uses 2S 10mm strong brushed motors. More, the camera is not only a FPV model but also inboard record in 720p format. Two versions are proposed: a standard RTF edition and a FPV edition including a 4.3″ FPV monitor and a goggle mask. Let’s have a look to this new Hubsan product. BOX CONTENT + 1 x Hubsan H122D + 1 x 710mAh 2S LiHV battery (with balancer plug only) + 1 x Transmitter (using 4xAAA batteries not included) + 1 x 4.3″ FPV monitor + 1 x FPV mask + 1 x 5.8G linear antenna + 1 x Sunshade + 1 x USB charging cable + 1 x USB to microUSB cable + 4 x Spare props (2 CW, 2 CCW) + 1 x Screwdriver + 1 x Instruction manual (English) Notice the sunshade module can be installed also for H501S radios. OVERVIEW The Hubsan H122D is a 130mm quadcopter inspired for the syle with last Walkera rodeo racers. The machine is mostly build on a 3K carbon base. For example the main lower/arms plate is a 2mm piece. Latteral plates are 0.8mm. Battery is installed on top. All electronic elements are perfectly jailed into the structure. Generally the machine looks solid and durable… except the props directly exposed. -FRONT VIEW To make LOS flights more easy, a strong white light is installed and controllable via the radiotransmitter. A central font plastic conapy protect the FPV camera. Motors pods also are in plastic. Except these two elements, the rest in carbon. The machine looks solid… -SIDE VIEW On the right side, a microSD card slot can be found. No click during the insertion of the card… In practice, the card can be lost after a hard crash. Good news for motor maintenance, they are connected via a small JST model. The left side welcomes a microUSB port… probably for future firmware updates… We can dream one day a spefici software to tune PIDs and to turn on advanced flight mode such as Acro. The VTX module is located rear. A metallic shield is here to minimize interference. No indication about the output power but since there is a CE logo on the box, we can expect a maximum of 25mW. There is uFL connector so it won’t be hard to change the antenna. No Vfreq/Vband selection since the Hubsan Protocol can control the Vfreq via the radio. -REAR VIEW As walkera models, two red lights are located in the rear part. The left one indicates the power status while the right the binding status. The right stays solid when it’s bound. The 5.8G linear antenna can be oriented/folded for transportation. -UPPER VIEW The H122D is connected to the battery via the balancer plug… -BOTTOM VIEW A Buzzer is here. As soon as the transmission link is lost, the buzzer will start to emit. Unfortunatly, no possibility to trigger the buzzer from a radio button. The main flight controller board is not protected from any water contact from the bottom… -WEIGHT Close to 118g with the battery !!!! It’s heavy for a direct brushed machine. Motors and props Motors are well protected into a high quality plastic pods Inside strong 2S compatible 10mm coreless brushed motors. Probably the biggest model we can find in the market. Will they give enough power versus a brushless edition ? That’s the main question. But for sure…. they will be under big stress under load…. and they durability will be reduced. Stock in advance at least one clockwise and one counter clockwise model. Props are secured with a tiny screws…. 65mm model. Since the machine is relatively heavy, I regret that only four spare ones are given in the bundle. LiPo A 710mAh 2S model is provided… It’s not a LiPo since the nominal voltage is 7.6V… more probably a LIHV. Notice the absence of a main lead connector… It means it will be hard to recharge via another charger. The actual one charge the battery in 1.5h… It’s long. Camera module A compact FPV camera with a field of view about 120 degrees is installed. Good news, the orientation is ajustable …. but no information about the number of TVL and light sensitivity… For the light sentivity, in practice it’s not fantastic …. it’s darker than classic 1lux CMOS camera. For example, sun looks as black hole…. not a good sign for a good light sensitivity. FPV monitor & Mask For the FPV bundle, we got a 4.3″ FPV monitor. The screen display is brillant so offering a lot of reflexion. Good news, there is a microSD slot on the right side when you can save photo or videos of the received FPV link. Files are recorded in VGA format (640×480) @ 30fps. Four bottom are located on the left side. The first “mode” selects between photo and camera functions. The second trigger photo shooting or video recording. The third enters into a menu where you can ajust the brightness, the saturation, the color and the Vfreq of the FPV rig. The last “CE” clear all OSD information from the screen if short pressed but enter into a binding mode when pressed more than 3s. some beeps are emitted in such mode. You will see in the video the exact procedure to full bind the H122D with both the radio and the FPV monitor… but you need first to run the binding from the FPV monitor before the binding of the transmitter. A builtin 2300mAh 1S LiPo is installed and offers more than 1h30 of usage. The LiPo is recharged via the microUSB port located on the right side. Despite the brillant screen, the video rendition is pretty good, sharp and precise. More, even without the sunshade protector, the screen is relatively well seen with daylights. There are lot of OSD informations displayed… At the top central position you have the photo/camera icons for the builtin quadcopter DVR recorder.More on the right the icons are for the builtin DVR of the monitor. You can monitor the Vbat on the top left and the current Pitch & Roll of the machine as well as the stick current values. The FPV mask is large, larger than any Eachine model for example and by consequence more heavy as well. Stand alone without the FPV monitor and antenna, it’s more than 450g… so expect a total weight superior to 600g. It’s easy to install the FPV monitor but you will need to turn on it first as well to turn on DVR recording before to close the box. No possibility to access to the four left button when the mask is closed. No latteral lens distance ajustement is possible …. but the mask’lengh is long enough to handle basic myopia/hypermetropia The mask opening is also large…. Correction glasses can used with the noze section is also large enough for occidental morphologies There are a lot of reflexions unfortunatly ….. but the video feedback is clear, crips and precise Transmitter The transmitter uses a gamepad style chassis with four shoulder buttons. The left one controls the photo and video recording. The right one ajust left and right trimming directions. Notice than the photo button when press and hold at power up stats the binding procedure. On the front panel, the power button need to be pressed more than 3-4s to turn on/off the radio. A large circle button on left turn on/off the front light and the other one on the right turn on/off OSD information on the screen. If you click on the right stick you can select one of the two speed modes. If you click on the left stick, a 360 flips can be done. I deeply regret the absence of a flight mode selection…. No acro mode possible … the machine offers only 6-axis stabilized mode. 4xAAA batteries are required to feed the transmitter. Notice, there is a microUSB port centrally… Probably also to flash a future firmware update. UNBOXING, ANALYSIS AND DEMO FLIGHT For sure with a proprieatery system, the H122D works flawless out of the box.. Charge the battery, install the 4xAAA batteries in the transmitter… Turn on everything and you can fly. One good news the FPV monitor rendition is pretty good and you can fly with it installed on the FPV mount associated with the transmitter. Best renditions are obtained when the monitor is inserted into the Mask. The depth rendition is pretty good, the image look much bigger and despite the absence of any lens ajustement, the image looks well focused even for old eyes. That’s definitively a good point…. I really appreciate the presence of a Builtin DVR as well. When armed, the machine emits a little treeble sound in general associated with 2S brushed solution. Despite being a 118g machine, the motors manage to push relatively well the machine … That’s a good point…. Default PIDs settings are well tune and the machine can be fast. No specific woobles after a fast hard turns and no altitude lost. Let’s start with the bad things …. Clearly the really annoying point is the latency introduced by the camera system (probably in order to record 720p files)… The latency is at minimum of 130ms !!!! It’s too much for a FPV racer machine… Once would say… since there is no acro flight mode who cares to have 130 ms ? …. I care… More, the frame rate displayed of the FPV monitor look poor …. even slower than a for a PAL transmission…. and in practice it’s just bit better than a WiFi transmission… You can imagine ? … Damned Hubsan managed to transform analog 5.8G NTSC transmission almost as laggy as a WiFi solution…. Don’t worry it’s not so catastrophic … but bye-bye attempts to fly this machine in tiny spaces. This machine requires more open large spaces. The FPV range is about 100mm and the RX sensitivity of the monitor not so bad…. Another good point. In term of flight duration, you can fly this machine 5min with recording turned on… no so bad. Despite having a relatively poor light sensitivity, the 720p recordings are really not bad.. relatively precise and crisp… What’s a pity that the associated CMOS sensor is not a bit more sensitive. CONCLUSIONS The Hubsan H122D is not a FPV racer but a beginner mid-flyer FPV cruizer dedicaced to large open spaces. If the flight performances are pretty good, as well as the battery duration and 720p recordings…. the limitations introduced by the laggy FPV system and absence of an acro mode don’t allow the H122D to be considered as a real FPV racer. PROS + Full complete FPV solution + Solid frame + Use H501 protocol + Good 720p recording + Orientable lens + Good goggles mask + Offer relatively good powerlifts + Builtin DVR for the 4.3″ FPV monitor CONS – Latency > 130ms – Low frame rate for both the FPV & 720p recordings (23-24fps) – Below average light sensitivity – No acro mode – Not a FPV racer – No lead connector for the battery – A bit heavy (118g) This quadcopter have been courtesy provided by Banggood in order to make a fair and not biased review. 22. INTRODUCTION The Eachine Beecore V2.0 is long awaited revision of the first brushed F3 flight controller dedicaced mainly for Tinywhoop FPV machines. Now in the menu, a betaflight OSD chip is added !!!! The V2.0 can be found with three choices of 2.4G receiver. one with a FrSky D8 model, one with a FlySky AFHDS-2A and the last with a Spektrum DSM2. With such kind of 3-in-1 FC, we can now enjoy OSD informations for our small winter compagnions. Let’s discover this new product. BOX CONTENT + 1 x Eachine Beecore V2 + 1 x microLOSI/mcPx lead cable + 1 x JST ph 2.0 lead cable + 1 x JST zh 1.0 lead cable + 1 x Dampened o-rings + screws bag The flight controller can be completly isolated from vibrations with such accessories. OVERVIEW The new board comes with dimensions to be compatible with most 66-70mm Tinywhoop frames. 3.2g the board standalone but 0.3g for the lead main connector The upper face welcome most of electronic chips. For example the long one is the OSD module. The central, the MPU-6000 for the 6-axis stabilization while the CC2500 for the FrSKy receiver is on the top left corner. On the top right, the bind button… In fact since the card must be installed diagonally with the arrows in the up direction, it can be a problem to install a AIO camera mount…due to the presence of this bind button. There is a possibility to connect a compact buzzer The bottom side welcomes the main F3 Arm core and four motors connectors So be aware with the motors layout and must match the betaflight one FET are referenced as BV2212…. No information found on them but they are rated to a maximum of 10A… which is a non-sens information…. Are they closer to 1A or to 10A ? …. UNBOXING, BUILDING, CONFIGURATION AND DEMO FLIGHT I decided to install the Eachine Beecore V2.0 on a Eachine E11C frame. For the AIO camera, i selected the Turbowing cyclops, a 2-in-1 AIO camera with a 700TVL CMOS sensor working in NTSC format coupled with a 25mW 48CH VTX. This camera weights only 3.3g and allow a direct connexion with a OSD system. Be aware about the AIO connexion, the Vin of the camera must be soldered on the Vin of the Beecore V2.0. Vout to Vout. I noticed with this type of frame, the microUSB port can be blocked by the battery tray…. you will need probably to cut a part of it to have a free access. The first type I tried to take off the machine, I observed some motor cuts when throttle was above 30%…. I had to retry several time by slow throttle progression in order to manage to take off. Clearly the voltage regulator cuts the circuit has a massive voltage drop…. You will need by consequence a super strong battery with a discharge rate >= 35C. With default PIDS of betaflight, the machine flies beautifull and thanks to the 7mm strong motors of the E011, the machine is strong enough for acro flights. The presence of OSD information is a big plus…. and more for the FrSKy version, RSSI feedback can be also displayed Betaflight 3.2.3 installation procedure CONCLUSIONS I really appreciated this new revision: Light, compact, powerfull enough with a F3 and now the addition of the OSD chip is real plus for our TinyWhoop machines. The only drawback of this setup is the linear Vreg stopping the receiver at take off if the battery is too weak. A 1S LiHv battery is strongly advised with the Beecore V2.0. Can we expect in a V3.0 a version 2S compatible and a 1A Vreg? PROS + Great F3 + OSD + Light + Betaflight 3.2.0 pre-installed and configured + Accept LIhv battery + RSSI & Vbat telemetry feedback for the FrSky version + RSSI feedback on OSD for the FrSky version CONS – Can have receiver brownout at take off with a weak battery – Not 2S compatible – Location of the bind button – Location of the microUSB port This quadcopter have been courtesy provided by Banggood in order to make a fair and not biased review. 23. A new compact 110mm brushless FPV racer with F4+OSD and Runcam Microswift CCD camera: https://www.banggood.com/GEPRC-Hummingbird-110mm-FPV-Racing-Drone-Omnibus-F4-12A-BLHeli_S-5_8G-48CH-VTX-RunCam-Micro-Swift-p-1245041.html Remember the SPCmaker 90NC ? it was a complete desaster due to bad gyros…. I hope here with this new machine, this major problem won’t be here because all electronic ingredients look super promising: 1106/6000Kv to boost performances … and support 4S out of the box… The price of such motors is a slightly more heavier machine (85g w/o battery, 120g with a 4S LiPo). The FC is a F4 model with a builtin OSD… No information about the MPU chip. I hope it’s still a MPU6000. 12A ESC… but supporting of course BLheli_S/Dshot technologies. The 48CH 5.8G VTX can ouput 3 differents powers. The frame look solid with 3mm 3K carbon lower plate/arms. Good news the Runcam camera can be oriented and seems not exposed to front shocks as the SPCmaker model. Two options are proposed: one PNP and BNF with a FrSky D16 XM+ receiver….
